Lauren Helmer is a freelance writer, book editor, and artist.

As a writer, her passion lies in unearthing compelling stories of the fascinating and brilliant minds behind the arts scene, culinary landscape, design and lifestyle spheres, and nonprofit sector of cities across the Southeast and beyond.

As an editor of books, magazines and more, Lauren understands the delicacy required to preserve the integrity of a publication’s voice and a company’s brand, while creating compelling content, improving language for clarity of meaning and ease of reading, and optimizing content for highest readership and click-through rates.

Lauren has served as a copy editor for magazine titles such as Covey Rise, Bourbon+, The Cottage Journal, Cooking with Paula Deen, fresh style, Good Cents Cooking. In the academic realm, she has copy-edited standardized tests for cities across the US through Kaplan K12, as well as an 800-page SAT prep book for The Princeton Review (now Random House). She has edited a major hospital ad campaign as well as bank and pharmaceutical apps and websites.

Her passion lies in editing books, where she infuses narratives with storytelling skills learned during her actor training at Boston University’s conservatory-style College of Fine Arts. She is currently adding to her growing roster of edited books, which includes Amazon Alexa: More Than Just Weather & Music, I Am B.R.A.V.E.: Soul-Strong Living for Girls, Before You Make Your Own: 50 Video Games Future Developers Need to Play as well as two forthcoming memoirs and a follow-up to the wildly popular Amazon Alexa skills book.

Lauren is also working on developing her own series of children’s books.

When she’s not writing, editing or painting, she is finding new culinary gems in her hometown of Birmingham, AL, enjoying family time at the lake, or sneaking in an episode of her favorite series du jour.
